Why Does Bubbles Use a Communication Device?

Bubbles Has a Tablet to Help Him Communicate
Bubbles, our new butterfly mascot here at Boundless, has been making new friends in classrooms and out at Boundless events! If you have met Bubbles, you know he loves giving high fives and fist bumps, but you may have also noticed that Bubbles is nonverbal, which means he does not use his voice to speak.
Just like Bubbles and some of our friends at Boundless, not everyone is able to communicate verbally. So, it is necessary to find alternate forms of communication for them to be heard. Each person is unique, and so are their forms of communication. At Boundless, we work hard to find which communication style works best for each person. This might range from pictures, writing, sign language, or a communication device.
Last week Bubbles received a new communication tool from one of our speech pathologists! “A lot of our friends at Boundless use communication tablets. Bubbles communication device is his voice, and he will keep it with him in case he wants to use it. This device will help him communicate with his friends, family, and the community,” said Abby Harris, speech language pathologist manager, at Boundless.
We greatly value helping Bubbles and our friends who are nonverbal become comfortable in their own way of communicating. “At Boundless, we believe everyone deserves a voice,” Harris said.
