Support Local Boundless Artists This January

Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, observed January 31, celebrates the transformative power of creativity to inspire, spark connection, and open doors to new possibilities. Art is more than just creative expression; it is also a form of communication, identity, and belonging.

At I Am Boundless, art is also a pathway to independence and economic opportunity. Through programs like Economic Connections (E-Conn), Boundless supports adults with disabilities as they explore meaningful work, develop their professional identity, and participate in community building, often through creative expression.

E-Conn is a Boundless initiative designed to help adults re-enter the workforce in a real and meaningful way. Participants receive support in networking as well as acquiring part-time work that allows them to maintain benefits or begin full-time employment. The program emphasizes choice, autonomy, and self-direction, meeting individuals where they are in order to help them get where they want to be.

E-Conn, spearheaded by specialist Angela Bellin, M.Ed, serves adults 22 and older who can independently navigate transportation, communication, and networking. These individuals are motivated to explore their professional identities and have chosen to reach out to Bellin or were referred by a Boundless community member.

Bellin finds passion in helping the individuals she serves bring their goals and dreams to life with real opportunities. She states, “What matters to me is what you come to me with. If you come to me and say, ‘Here’s what I want to do,’ I’ll figure out a way to connect you to the community.”

Art often becomes a bridge between passion and profession. Bellin has had the honor of connecting many local artists with like-minded communities and professional opportunities through partnerships with galleries, businesses, and community organizations that help artists build their portfolios, gain experience, foster professional relationships, and grow their confidence.

Creative expression builds confidence and encourages self-belief. Many program participants find themselves transformed by being treated as professionals. Bellin elaborates, sharing, “All of a sudden, they have peers. Suddenly, they have people who respect them and want to be a reference for them.” Artists are not only engaging in creative work, but they are also learning to communicate, take responsibility, network, and advocate for themself. Being paid for their work and included in professional spaces reinforces dignity and value. In Bellin’s words, “These people have been so marginalized for so long. And then all of a sudden, it’s like, ‘Wait…Bank of America wants to work with me. High Road Gallery wants to work with me.”

Many adults with disabilities experience a sharp drop in structured support after age 22, which is often called the service cliff. E-Conn was intentionally designed to fill that gap. Bellin shared, “a lot of these adults have had support up until the age of 22… and then they’re 25, 30, 35, and there aren’t as many structured supports.” Success in this program isn’t defined by a single outcome, according to Bellin, “There’s no real definition for success. Success looks like being authentic.” It is measured by growth, goal setting, confidence, and connection, all while balancing human-centered care with sustainable program metrics.

E-Conn collaborates with a wide range of artists and creators, often in partnership with galleries such as High Road Gallery, The Awesome Gallery, and community art spaces. A highlight of this work is an upcoming neurodiverse artist exhibition titled ‘Seen: An Exhibition of Outside Art,’ located at High Road Gallery and hosted in connection with Open Door, Creative Foundation, and Art Outside the Lines. Boundless connected artists will take over the gallery from January 16-30. Viewers can visit the exhibition on Fridays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m.. The opening reception will take place on January 17 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Bellin shared her excitement, saying, “This is probably one of the best shows we’ve ever put together.”

What makes this exhibition special is its artist-led nature. In Bellin’s words, “they’re the ones who’ve been able to say, ‘Here are the artists, here are the pieces, here’s how we’re doing this.’ I just oversee it.” The participating artists have collaborated, curated, handled logistics, and prepared professional materials, demonstrating growth far beyond the canvas. “When you don’t put parameters on people, and you say, ‘Here’s what I need to see,’ they rise to it.” At the heart of it all, Bellin shared, “I serve people. We serve people. That’s the priority.”
