National Learn to Swim Day

National Learn to Swim Day is an important reminder that swimming is more than just a fun summer activity — it’s a life-saving skill that can build confidence, independence, and joy for children of all abilities. For children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), learning to swim can open the door to new experiences while also supporting physical health, social growth, and personal achievement.

Many children with I/DD experience sensory, communication, or motor challenges that can make traditional sports or recreational activities difficult. Swimming offers a unique environment where kids can move freely, strengthen muscles, improve coordination, and develop water safety skills in a supportive and low-impact setting. Beyond the physical benefits, swim programs can also help children build self-esteem, practice social interaction, and gain confidence through accomplishing new goals.

Water safety is especially important for children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Studies have shown that children with autism are at a higher risk of wandering near water, making early swim education and water familiarization even more critical. Creating positive and safe experiences around water can help children feel more comfortable and prepared while also giving families peace of mind.

At I Am Boundless, we believe every child deserves opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun in an inclusive environment. That’s why we offer swim days designed to give individuals the chance to enjoy the water, socialize with peers, and build confidence in a supportive setting.

Whether it’s splashing with friends, practicing swim skills, or simply enjoying time in the pool, these experiences create lasting memories while promoting safety and inclusion for all.
