March is National Social Worker Month

March is National Social Worker Month, and we couldn’t be more grateful for everything social workers do at Boundless. Licensed social workers (LSW) and licensed independent social workers (LISW) hold several roles here, such as therapists, crisis counselors, day treatment providers, respite providers, and care coordinators. Each position makes a significant impact on the people we serve and plays a huge part in the Boundless mission.

A social worker’s job is complex and multifaceted. They empower the people we serve to make practical changes in their lives, which is accomplished in many ways. It could look like a counselor helping their client learn coping skills, or it could look like a care coordinator setting up various types of treatment for their clients. Day treatment and respite providers create a structure that allows families to create change together. For all the people we serve and their families, positive change is the goal, and our LSW/LISWs play a crucial role in it.

Social work, as a field, is client-centric, and that’s exactly what our LSW/LISWs appreciate about their roles at Boundless. “I love social work and being a social worker,” said Lisa Morris-Mulligan, LISW, Northwest Region, clinical manager. “The most rewarding thing is the client. I love working with people and being able to help create change. When I see a problem or population that is vulnerable, I like to take action to help create change for those individuals.”

In many cases, the client-centered nature of the job is exactly what drew the Boundless social workers to social work in the first place. Suzanne Locke, a behavioral health therapist in Youngstown, said, “I always felt drawn to help others.  After working on an ambulance as an EMT, I felt the need to pursue my career and further help others. Social work seemed like a natural choice since it had so many different ‘helping’ career paths.”

No matter how they came to pursue their licensure, Boundless is fortunate to have such skilled and caring social workers who believe in the Boundless mission. Their compassionate approach and helpful nature are assets to not just Boundless but the community at large. Each LSW/LISW at Boundless makes a valuable difference in the lives of the people we serve, and we could not do what we do without them.

This Social Worker Month, we thank all LSW/LISW at Boundless and beyond for all that you do. The world is truly a better place with your contributions.
