Tips for Planning an Inclusive Fall Outing
Fall activities can bring exciting sights, sounds, smells and textures, but these experiences may also feel overwhelming for some individuals. A little preparation can help families make the most of their outings.
- Plan ahead. Review event websites for accessibility information, registration requirements, schedules and expected accommodations.
- Bring familiar sensory supports. Noise-reducing headphones, sunglasses, fidgets and comfort items may help make new environments more manageable.
- Consider timing. Visiting during quieter hours or attending a designated sensory-friendly session can help reduce stimulation.
- Create a flexible plan. Preview the location when possible, identify quiet spaces and allow time for breaks.
- Follow each person's lead. It's OK to skip an activity, change plans or leave early. Everyone deserves to enjoy community experiences in a way that feels comfortable to them.
October is full of opportunities to connect, explore and celebrate the season. With accessible programming and thoughtful planning, families can discover experiences that fit their needs and interests.
At Boundless, we believe inclusion means creating opportunities for everyone to participate, connect and experience the joy of community. We hope this October brings you and your family new adventures, meaningful connections and a little extra fall fun!
