Serving Up Treats and Vocational Training

I Am Boundless, Inc. celebrated the grand opening of their new Confection Connection bakery at 3819 Center Road, in Brunswick, Ohio. Boundless kicked off the celebration with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a taste test on Wednesday, June 28.

While Boundless has offered other vocational opportunities throughout the state including a bakery that makes Pets & People dog treats in West Carrollton, this is their first endeavor opening a bakery for humans. They will be providing the Brunswick community with a variety of desserts. It is a wholesale bakery, so they only accept larger orders, which is perfect for schools, nursing homes, and corporations. They are not open to the public as a store front currently.

Boundless provides valuable vocational training to adults with disabilities. They will learn skills they can take into their personal lives while creating new bonds with their coworkers.

The bakery space is designed for those with disabilities and is handicap accessible. The kitchen is quite spacious and provides ample room for bakers to move freely through the area even if they are in wheelchairs. The Confection Connection has two large ovens, two large refrigerators and two freezers for storage. The bakers have been hard at work preparing for the grand opening. In preparation for the ribbon cutting, Confection Connection prepared 10 dozen muffins and 12 dozen cookies to send out for specialized orders.

The ceremony opened with Boundless President and CEO Patrick Maynard, PhD, sharing details about the creation of the bakery and his appreciation to the community for their generosity. He also thanked Boundless staff for their hard work through the entire process.

Jake Crawford, one of Confection Connection’s bakers, spoke about how much the new bakery meant to him. “I’m excited to be working here,” he said. “I have a lot of friends here, and I just want to say we are officially open for business.” Jake, along with the other bakers, prepared the desserts for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Following the ceremony, four celebrity taste testers sampled desserts that the Confection Connection debuted. The judges included: ??, from Firstar, who was the first official bakery customer, Stacey Maleckar, Medina County Board of DD Superintendent, Brunswick Councilman Tim Smith, Patrick Maynard, PhD, CEO and President of I Am Boundless, Inc. The items they sampled were caramel brownies, lemon Bundt cakes, banana muffins and chocolate chip cookies. They seemed to enjoy all the desserts, but the lemon Bundt cake unanimously came out on top as the victor.

Boundless appreciates all the community support they have received in Brunswick and is looking forward to establishing new partnerships to ensure the success of the Confection Connection.
