10 Fun Things to Do on Rain Day

While some people wish for sunshine every day, rainy days have their own special charm. They encourage us to slow down, stay cozy, and enjoy simple activities we might not otherwise make time for.

And as Disability Pride Month continues throughout July, Rain Day is a great reminder that fun doesn't have to look the same for everyone. The best rainy-day activities are the ones that fit your interests, abilities, and comfort level.

Here are 10 ideas for celebrating Rain Day your way:

1. Build the Ultimate Blanket Fort

Gather blankets, pillows, cushions, and a few favorite snacks to create the perfect indoor retreat. Once your fort is complete, use it as a cozy spot for reading, watching movies, playing games, or simply listening to the rain outside.

2. Have a Movie Night

If you choose to stay home, maybe rewatch a favorite comedy, discover an animated adventure, or revisit a classic you've always loved. Make it extra special with popcorn, cozy pajamas, and a comfortable place to relax.

3. Try a New Craft

Coloring, painting, scrapbooking, knitting, jewelry making, and other crafts can be adapted to different interests and skill levels. Whether you're an experienced artist or just trying something new, Rain Day is a great excuse to get creative.

4. Bake Something Yummy

Invite a family member, friend, neighbor, or support professional to help bake a favorite treat. Cooking together can be a fun way to connect, learn new skills, and enjoy something tasty when you're finished.

5. Create a Rainy-Day Playlist

Build a playlist filled with songs that make you feel happy, relaxed, energized, or nostalgic. Then turn up the volume and enjoy a living room dance party, sing-along session, or simply some relaxing background music.

6. Start a Puzzle Challenge

Try a jigsaw puzzle, word search, crossword, Sudoku, or brain-teaser app. If you're spending the day with others, turn it into a friendly challenge and see what you can solve together.

7. Read or Listen to a Book

Few things pair better with rainy weather than a good story. Curl up with a favorite book, try a new novel, or explore an audiobook. Large-print books, e-readers, audiobooks, and other accessible formats make it easier than ever to enjoy reading in the way that works best for you.

8. Host an Indoor Game Day

Board games, card games, trivia contests, and video games can all bring people together. Consider games that offer cooperative play or adaptable rules so everyone can participate and have fun.

9. Bring Nature Indoors

Just because it's raining doesn't mean you can't enjoy the natural world. Watch raindrops race down a window, care for houseplants, learn about local wildlife, or spend a few minutes listening to the sounds of a storm.

10. Simply Slow Down

Sometimes the best activity is no activity at all. Make a cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. Grab a blanket. Take a deep breath. Listen to the rhythm of the rain.

11. Schedule Your Next Appointment with Boundless Health

Whether you need a routine physical, dental care, or even speech therapy, Boundless Health is a great resource for all your Healthcare needs. A rainy day is the perfect time to make that call you’ve been putting off.
