A Woman of 1,000 Laughs

“I hear Susie’s laugh every time she comes to my Mom’s home for her weekly visit and the whole family is together.”

My sister, Susan “Susie” Hale, may be a woman of few words, but she’s also a woman of 1,000 laughs.

I hear Susie’s laugh every time she comes to my Mom’s home for her weekly visit and the whole family is together:  My mom, my kids, my husband and of course Susie.

Our entire family cherishes these visits. Even the family dog is happy – Susie is one of his favorite people. I think that’s because of Susie’s ability to drop the occasional strategic crumb for him to gobble down. They’re buddies and he makes her laugh, too.

Susie’s best smiles are for those who read to her. Her absolute favorite book is Katherine Howard’s Little Bunny Follows His Nose.  She just adores that book and never tires of hearing it. We’ve read it together for so long, we’ve worn out and replaced multiple copies.  She’s got a couple of other favorites, but Little Bunny will always earn her brightest smile and biggest laugh.

When we were younger, Susie always loved listening to me play piano. My Mom would have me play for her on a regular basis. In hindsight, I wonder now if that was one way my Mom got me to practice for my lessons!  Susie still loves piano music and it’s a special way for us to spend fun time together — time we both treasure!
